George R.R. Martin Kills The Theory Of An 8th ‘A Song Of Ice And Fire’ Novel

George R.R. Martin is a busy guy. From hitting up conventions to working on a ‘Game of Thrones’ spinoff show, executive producing on Syfy’s ‘Nightflyers,’ doing the same on HBO’s ‘Who Fears Death,‘ he has a lot on his plate! One of these items on his to-do list is still trying to finish ‘A Song of Ice and Fire.’ Rumors have been swirling lately that there was now a plan for eight books in the series while we’re still waiting for the sixth novel, ‘The Winds of Winter.’ Due out possibly this year, ‘The Winds of Winter’ will be followed at some point by ‘A Dream of Spring’ which has been slated to close out the series for quite some time. With only having to wait seven years for the sixth installation the idea that the series would drag out into eight books might mean we’d have another 14 years to wait to read it all! Kidding aside, Martin recently addressed this rumor on his LiveJournal after he talked about the Hugo Awards nominations. On the other extreme, I don’t consider A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE a series either; it’s one single story, being published in (we hope) seven […]

‘Game Of Thrones’ Executive Producer/Writer Bryan Cogman Is Developing A Fifth Prequel With George R.R. Martin

With just one season left of its flagship series ‘Game of Thrones’, HBO is looking to stay in the realm of Westeros.  After all, ‘GoT’ is not ending due to lack of popularity.  It’s still HBO’s top show, after all.  So understandably the network is looking for a way to continue the mythology and that way seems to be in prequels.  It was previously revealed that HBO was developing four potential series that would take place before the events of ‘GoT’, including one spearheaded by creator George R.R. Martin and ‘Kingsman’ scribe Jane Goldman. Now word has emerged that a fifth prequel is in the works from Martin and co-executive producer/writer Bryan Cogman.  This prequel has been in the works for some time, but Cogman’s involvement was not discussed before, as he hadn’t yet finalized his deal. During this time, Martin could only tease Cogman’s project, saying: “And there’s more. We had four scripts in development when I arrived in LA last week, but by the time I left we had five. We have added a fifth writer to the original four. No, I will not reveal the name here. HBO announced the names of the first four, and will […]

‘Kingsman’ Screenwriter Discusses Her Upcoming ‘Game Of Thrones’ Prequel… But Can’t Reveal Too Much

HBO isn’t giving up without a huge bloody fight.  It’s the biggest hit in recent memory. ‘Game of Thrones’ may be winding up with next year’s eighth season, but that won’t be the last visit to Westeros, if the network has anything to say about it.  HBO is developing four separate prequel series set in George R.R. Martin‘s mystical land.  Very little is known at this point, but it has been made clear that none of these are direct spin-offs and none of the characters from ‘GoT’ will be featured. Martin himself is developing one of these prequels with screenwriter and producer Jane Goldman, who has produced scripts for the fantasy ‘Stardust’, ‘Kickass’, ‘X-Men: First Class’ and ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’, ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children’ and ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’, its upcoming sequel ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ and the already announced ‘Kingsman 3’. Goldman discussed the ‘GoT’ program she is working on, giving some insight.  First of all, just because these are prequels that don’t directly connect to the main story of ‘Game of Thrones’, they may detail events that have been mentioned on the show or in the ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ novels that […]

George R.R. Martin Promises One, Possibly Two Books In 2018!

Winter is here my friends! Not just in HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones‘ either but George R.R. Martin has promised at least one if not two novels set in Westeros to be released in 2018! After giving us a long wait since the last installment of “A Song of Ice and Fire” it looks as if ‘The Winds of Winter‘, and potentially the first volume of “Fire and Blood” might be making it to print! He snuck the news into his LiveJournal where he was talking about the upcoming release of ‘The Book of Swords‘ anthology. Here is what Martin had to say about it: “I am still working on it, I am still months away (how many? good question), I still have good days and bad days, and that’s all I care to say. Whether Winds or the first volume of Fire and Blood will be the first to hit the bookstores is hard to say at this juncture, but I do think you will have a Westeros book from me in 2018… and who knows, maybe two. A boy can dream…” For those wondering what ‘Fire and Blood’ are all about, it is his “fake histories on the Targaryen […]

George R.R. Martin’s ‘Winds Of Winter’ Will Be Out This Year… Maybe

It’s now going on six years since the last installment of George R.R. Martin‘s ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ novel series, which inspired HBO’s hit series ‘Game of Thrones’.  The delay has been so long that the show caught up to all of the published plotlines in the novels and had to start making up […]
