Disney Unleashes 14 New Stills From ‘A Wrinkle In Time’

With Disney’s splashy ‘A Wrinkle In Time’ inching closer to reality, the studio is releasing more and more promotional material, including a new batch of stills, featuring the star studded cast which includes Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling, Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and newcomer Storm Reid.  The film, based on Madeline L’Engle’s bestselling YA novel, was directed by Ava DuVernay, who received accolades for her Martin Luther King biopic ‘Selma’.  After that, she was highly sought by Hollywood for some major pictures.  DuVernay passed on directing Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’ in favor of adapting this novel for parent company Disney. So far, the trailers have been the lushest, most beautiful clips out there especially with the glittery reinventions of the three witches.  And the film is receiving praise for its multi-ethnic cast and the fact that Reid’s Meg Murry is the focal character.   That’s all on display here in these pics, plus more.  Check them out below: A Wrinkle in Time is the story of Meg Murry, a high-school-aged girl who is transported on an adventure through time and space with her younger brother Charles Wallace and her friend Calvin O’Keefe to rescue her father, a gifted scientist, from the evil forces […]

Ava DuVernay Can’t Stop Staring At The ‘A Wrinkle In Time’ Barbie Dolls

Director and onetime Barbie doll, Ava DuVernay has crafted what looks to be a lush masterpiece with her live action adaptation of ‘A Wrinkle In Time’, the famous YA novel by Madeleine L’Engle.  One byproduct of big blockbuster movies is merchandising and in this case, Mattel has added three stunning new dolls to their Barbie line based on the likenesses of Mindy Kaling as Mrs. Who, Oprah Winfrey as Mrs. Which and Reese Witherspoon as Mrs. Whatsit.  Mattel’s celebrity dolls are celebrated for their high quality and spot-on likenesses and that definitely seems to continue with these. The director shared a glimpse of the new dolls on Twitter, with her ringing endorsement, saying “When Disney makes Barbies of your movie’s characters and you just want to stare at them all day in disbelief because you loved Barbies as a girl but never had any like these”: When Disney makes Barbies of your movie’s characters and you just want to stare at them all day in disbelief because you loved Barbies as a girl but never had any like these. #WrinkleinTime pic.twitter.com/7PzQsiNoyG — Ava DuVernay (@ava) January 25, 2018 In L’Engle’s original novel, the immortals tended to favor the depiction of traditional […]

Good Time Slots: Disney Airs New ‘A Wrinkle in Time’ Spot During The Grammy’s

Disney decided to release a new spot for ‘A Wrinkle in Time’ last night during the Grammy’s, capitalizing on the big music night to continue to hype up their latest blockbuster which is set to hit theaters on March 9th. If they are lucky, they could hit upon another huge franchise as the author penned quite a few sequels set in the same world, all of which are ripe for a big screen adaptation should the original fare well with audiences and critics (and the international market – let’s not kid ourselves here.) The new TV spot, unlike the trailer and other spots we have seen so far, shows us more of the villains of the film, including Michael Pena in the role of the possessed character who is the personification of the red-eyed IT, Pena looking to be perfect for the part as he can seamlessly shift from fun and wacky and helpful to eery, creepy and menacing with those glowing red eyes, as he does in the TV spot. The spot also introduced the real big bad of the film, The Black Thing, which is sure to be a difficult villain to pull off in the movie as in […]

New ‘A Wrinkle In Time’ Motion Posters Bring Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling And Reese Witherspoon To Life

Mrs. Which, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Whatsit come to life, embodied by Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling and Reese Witherspoon in a new series of motion posters released by Disney to promote Ava DuVernay‘s upcoming adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s beloved sci fi/fantasy novel, ‘A Wrinkle In Time’.  Winfrey, Kaling and Witherspoon play three mystic sisters who guide the story’s young protagonist Meg Murry (played by Storm Reid) who must travel the cosmos in search of her missing father (Chris Pine).  The cast also includes Zach Galifianakis, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Levi Miller, Michael Peña and Bellamy Young. You can check out Mrs. Which, Mrs. Who and Mrs. Whatsit in motion below:         These images come courtesy of the film’s official Facebook page.  Disney has also released a new TV spot for the movie, which you can see below, although there doesn’t appear to be any new footage:   ‘A Wrinkle In Time’ arrives in theaters on March 9, 2018.  This actually marks Disney’s second adaptation of L’Engle’s novel, following a 2003 TV movie.  Unfortunately, that version of ‘A Wrinkle In Time’ was postponed numerous times and cut down from a four hour miniseries to a single three-hour movie.  Said L’Engle at the time, “Yes, I expected […]

Disney Unleashes Four Dazzling Character Posters For ‘A Wrinkle In Time’

Disney has unleashed four new character posters for their adaptation of Madeleine L’Engel‘s twisty OG YA novel ‘A Wrinkle In Time.’  The first poster showcases the film’s main character, Meg Murry, depicted by Storm Reid, a young girl who must embark on a journey across reality in search of her missing scientist father, played by Chris Pine. About her young star, director Ava DuVernay said: “She’s a wonder. She’s trained, but she’s also a natural, so here you’ve got this natural ability that’s within a girl who really studies and takes it seriously as well. She cared about this character and she goes so deep in it. I saw a lot of girls, but there was only one Meg and she stood out early. And the world is in for a treat. Get ready. Get your umbrellas out. There’s a storm coming. All the Storm one-liners, I got ‘em all.” As precocious as Reid appears in the role, costume designer Paco Delgado gets to really cut loose when it comes to the mystical guides that accompany Meg on her journey.  All three, embodied by Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling and Reese Witherspoon, diverge greatly from their descriptions in the original novel, but […]
